Queenstown Bound!

We are off! 5 days of work-free goodness await us (after 4pm tomorrow)! This weekend is the kick-off to the week long Queenstown Bike Festival. Scott and I will be part of it from the beginning! On Saturday, there will be a 6 hour long gondola assisted enduro, and we have entered as a team. In other words... for 6 hours or 1/4 of a day, we will take turns getting a lift up the gondola and then riding down the mountain as fast as we possibly can. Should be fun. If you're intrigued, or still just can't figure out what I'm going on about, you can check out the link here.

Also on the list of possible bike festival activities... a coffee to grape cycling tour, guided night rides, mini-bike challenges at the pub, and more. Unfortunately we're missing some mega events at the end of the festival... but there's always next year!

Enough about bikes though, right? I'm excited about the hiking, the relaxing, the lake... Queenstown has been listed #163 on one blogger's 1000 Most Romantic Places. And it's easy to see why!

(Um, clearly I need one of these.)

Actually, if you really have some time to kill, do check out the list of romantic places... it's inspiring. And if you don't have the time - SPOILER ALERT - #1 is Antigua, Guatemala. The review really made me want to go. Like I needed another line added to my vacation bucket list.

So on our way to Queenstown we are going to spend the night at Lake Tekapo. We have been here once before, 2 years ago. We stayed one night in an over-priced itty-bitty box of a "luxury" hotel room. Well, I learned my lesson. This time I booked (2 days) ahead...  I'm very excited to check out the B&B we've got reserved; it looks romantic and the food looks divine. And hopefully it will be a clear night, as the light pollution is nil in tiny Tekapo and they have a world class observatory.

Ok, it won't actually be springtime, but never mind!

I suppose I've made my point regarding my excitement for our mini vacation. The bike race is basically just mandatory exercise scheduled for half of my day on Saturday (just kidding, Scott). Of course I'll post photos of my own when we're back... or perhaps do a little blogging while we're there.

Now if only the car would pack itself.
